Workshop on the 78 millon dollar sewer bonds - Monday at 6p
Don’t forget the League City Council is having another workshop on the water rate hike and the 78 million dollar bond issue.

Don't spend my tax money on books that don't share my values
Conservatives all over the county owe a debt of gratitude to Friendswood City Councilmen John LeCour and Chris Peden for sounding the alarm about the book selected by the Galveston Reads organization, called “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.”
After issuing a proclamation supporting the book, Friendswood Mayor Brizendine issued a press release regretting endorsing the novel and indicating he was concerned about the book’s content.
The book, written from the perspective of an autistic child, contains profanity and is being pushed as recommending reading/discussion material by Galveston County Reads.
This group has slid under the radar in various cities in the county, including the city of Galveston and have “discussions” about the book scheduled in the library at Santa Fe and the library in Dickinson. The group has a discussion scheduled at the League City Civic Center on March 30th at 7p.
Councilman Peden said it best in the Galveston Daily News article, when he said the book, which claims there is no God, and no afterlife, should not be purchased with taxpayer money.
It is one thing to have books like this available to purchase to the public. I am all for freedom of speech.
I just don’t think we should recommend books to our young people that go against our values and we should never use tax money to do it.

The Day Laborer Debate - This Week on Anything League City
Tune in to this Wednesday's, Anything League City, show at 7p. Our guest will be Republican candidate for Galveston County Commissioner Precinct Two and Markum Group client, Albert Choate.
Also, I will do battle with League City’s favorite Democrat, Chris Mallios, over the day laborer situation in League City.
Recently the Galveston Daily News did a story about 62 day laborers who were picked up in front of the League City Police station by officers of the LCPD and agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
60 of them were released. Why?
Should local police officers be able to enforce federal immigration laws?
Do we need to build shelters and work halls for day laborers??
Tune in and be enlightened.

Republican Network meeting - Tonight 7p in League City
The first meeting of the Republican Network for 2006 is tonight, Thursday, January 19, 2006 at 7:00pm at the Galveston County Courthouse Annex, 174 Calder Rd. League City.
Tonight's Speaker is: Galveston County Republican Party Chairman Kevin Corcoran.

Workshop on water/sewer bond - Tues - Jan 17th - 6p
Mayor Shults stated that the City Council would meet on the water and sewer bond issue until there was real consensus on the solution.
Our friends on the left keep wanting to see transparent government in action; I submit that this is it.
There is a major problem with the city's capacity for water/sewer and this Mayor and council are tacking an issue that should have been dealt with a decade ago. It requires strong leadership and a commitment to governing openly which is what is happening right now.
So if you are a Democrat or a Republican and want you want your voice to be heard, attend the next workshop on Tuesday, Jan 17th.
You can't complain later about your water and sewer rates or increased taxes if you don't speak up now.

Petition to recall Louisianna Governor Blanco filed
Finally, a Republican is trying to hold Louisanna Governor Blanco justifiably responsible for her part in the post-Katrina response fiasco.

CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION TONIGHT ON WATER RATE INCREASE
If you think our water rates are too high, this is your chance to speak up and speak out. If you don’t, then the message will be: increase the rates, it’s OK with us.

The League City City Council will discuss proposed water and wastewater service rate increases and related capital improvement projects in a work session scheduled for Monday, January 9, 2006 beginning at 6:30pm in the City Council Chambers, 200 West Walker Street.
The public is welcome.
In addition, a public hearing on the rate INCREASE proposal will be held at the City Council’s regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 24, 2006 beginning at 6:30p.m. The City Council may take action at that time.

Tom Delay decides not to seek majority leader's post
Congressman Tom Delay formally stepped down from the majority leaders post today.
Doing so will allow him to focus on defending himself against the baseless, partisan charges of lberal Travis County DA Ronnie Earle and concentrate on getting elected to a 12th term in CD 22.
The congressman has expressed his full intention to seek the majority leaders post in November once his legal troubles are over.

Galveston County Republican Party Candidates file for office
(LEAGUE CITY) – Galveston County Republican Party Chairman Kevin Corcoran today announced a strong, qualified and conservative group of candidates seeking the Republican nomination in the March primary.
“I am excited to present to Republican Primary voters this strong group of candidates who are committed to the conservative agenda of lower taxes, limited government, fiscal responsibility, and judicial restraint”, Corcoran continued, speaking with a group of Republican party activists in League City.
“This team gives us a solid foundation as the Galveston County Republican Party gathers momentum for success in the general election in November,” Corcoran said.
Nearly all of the candidates for county office presented themselves to the crowd of more than a hundred gathered at the Galveston County Annex on Calder Road in League City who enjoyed BBQ while meeting with the candidates. Led by Chairman Corcoran who is up for re-election in the March primary, seven Republican incumbents: District 17 State Senator Kyle Janek, District 24 State Representative Larry Taylor, County Treasurer Kevin Walsh, 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor, Precinct 4 County Commissioner Ken Clark, JP 7 Judge Mark Foster, and JP 8 place 2 Judge Jim Woltz are seeking re-election.
First time countywide candidates include Galveston County Navigation District 1 Commissioner Albert Choate, Kevin O’ Brien and Eddie A. Janek who are all running for the County Commissioner Precinct 2 nomination, former League City Council member Barbara Meeks running for County Clerk, Galveston ISD Trustee John Ford running for the District Clerk nomination, Jon Hall running for District Attorney, Chuck Kaufmann running for Probate Court Judge, Pete Nanos and Taylor Schwab running for JP Precinct 1 Judge, Jack Roady running for Judge of County Court at Law #3, and John Grady and Brett Griffin running for Judge of County Court at Law #2.
Former Galveston County GOP Chairman Chris Stevens is running for the County Judge nomination against Bill Quiroga and Judge Miles Whittington, who served a one-year term on the 212th after being appointed to the court by Governor George W. Bush in 1998, is seeking the nod for the 212th District Court again.
